San Jose Clean Air Vehicle Parking Program

To be eligible, your vehicle must:

  • Be registered in San Jose or purchased from a licensed dealership in San Jose.
  • Be eligible for the California Air Resources Board Green or White State of California Carpool lane sticker. Vehicles eligible for the Green or White California Carpool lane sticker can be found at http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/carpool/carpool.htm.
  • Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEV) are not listed on this link, but are eligible for the San Jose Clean Air Vehicle Parking program. You must display a valid “Clean-Air Vehicle Permit” issued from the City of San Jose Department of Transportation to participate. Valid permits must have been purchased after June 2011.

    The City of San Jose’s Clean Air Vehicle Parking Program allows FREE parking at:

    • Municipal off-street parking facilities:
      • Fourth Street Garage
      • Market/San Pedro Square Garage
      • San Pedro/Bassett Lot
      • Second/San Carlos Garage
      • Third Street Garage
    • On-street meters
    • San Jose regional park and recreation parking lots.

    The program is meant to:

    • Encourage the continued reduction of auto emissions;
    • Stimulate activity in the downtown;
    • Increase sales of clean-air vehicles at San Jose auto dealerships.

    To join the program

    1. San Jose auto dealerships should distribute an application for the program at the point of sale. Or, download Clean Air Vehicle Parking Permit Application (PDF).
    2. Complete the application, including the following:

    • Copy of the bill of sale
    • Copy of DMV Registration
    • $30 administrative fee, with check made out to “City of San Jose DOT”

    3. Mail the application to the City of San Jose Department of Transportation (DOT)
    200 E. Santa Clara St., CA 95113.

    Or apply in person at City Hall, 200 E. Santa Clara St., first level, window #3.

    4. DOT will issue a Clean Air Parking Permit to qualified applicants.  All motorists of clean-air vehicles must display the Clean Air Vehicle Parking Permit and adhere to the posted time restrictions at all parking meters.

    Note: The program may expire on June 30, 2012.
